  • Kakadu NP

Known for its 65’000 years old living aboriginal culture, Kakadu NP is half the size of Switzerland. A third of its area can be flooded in the wet season only to then completely dry up to a few permanent water bodies such as the Yellow Water Billabong in the dry season - for a while becoming one of the most densely populated wildlife zones on Earth.

  • Daintree NP

The Daintree is by far the oldest rainforest in the world, considered to have continuously existed since the break-up of the super continent Pangea 180 mio years ago. It‘s home to 12 of the 19 most primitive flowering plant families as well as Saltwater Crocodiles and surviving dinosaurs like Cassowaries.

  • Crater Lakes NP

Specialized birding lodges like Crater Lakes Rainforrest Cottages attract birds and other creatures from the rainforest to feeding stations. Male Victoria‘s Riflebirds often reward guests with a display of choreographed poses and flashes of bright colors aimed at females and rivals. Peterson Creek in nearby Yungaburra is home to the fabulous Platypus.

  • Etty Bay

Cassowaries are the second strongest avian dinosaurs alive today (85 kg). They can defend themselves with a deadly dagger-like claw on their inner toes. Females are bigger and males look after the chicks. The caravan park at Etty Bay is one of the few places where they regularly come out of the rainforest down to the beach to search for food.
